Jake is another one of our rescued horses. He is a bay thoroughbred. Jake was born with a deformity called Wry mouth, in which his jaw bone was curved. Usually foals born with this deformity are euthanized. They have problems nursing from their mothers and breathing. For some reason Jake was not euthanized and at age 4 he raced in two races. Due to his deformity, he couldn't run because he had trouble breathing. He was given away to someone else.
He was brought to a farm where we believe he was severely neglected for many months.
We got him in March 2010. He was emaciated. This picture was taken the day we got him.
This picture was taken about 3 months later. As it began to warm up, Jake's winter coat began to fall out in large chunks due to malnutrition. He had nothing but skin. Eventually a new shiny coat began to grow in its place. It was obvious now that Jake had a very sweet and timid personality. You can see in this picture that he's gained some weight too!
Just recently the vet came out and determined Jake had gained enough weight to be put under sedation to have his teeth floated to help ease the difficulty of eating from his deformity. Thanks Dr. Stone for helping with Jake and his recovery!

Jake has been adopted by Caitlyn. She loves him! He is still gaining weight and we work with him every day. Jake loves to be brushed and given treats. Caitlyn spoils him rotten. She has begun lounging him and riding him bareback, getting him back into shape. He's doing wonderful!
